The plane has crashed

Hey friends, it’s been a while since I’ve published the latest JK TV episode, even though I said that it would be a weekly show. I haven’t blogged for a long time too.

I feel that the plane had crashed.

I’m really sorry that I couldn’t keep up to my own expectations and that I let you down…

I really regret it, but I was too busy working on client projects and prepping a keynote on WordPress security for The Branding Summit.

But it’s all about to change from now on!

I’m going to switch the focus back to my blog and on JK TV, which means that you’ll get new contents on WordPress, WordPress security and building online business each week!

Behind the curtain

Let me give you a look behind the curtains and explain why I lost focus on my blog and on JK TV.

As you know I’m a WordPress developer and I help online entrepreneurs build websites that grow their businesses.

Recently I’ve also decided to start exploring WordPress security and web security, which added more stuff to my plate.

Then I got a client who wanted me to create a new social network. We’ve teamed up on this idea and now we’re actually launching our own social network! I’m really excited about this project and in a few weeks I can share more details with you. You know this feeling when you want to share something with the world but you simply can’t? It’s tough.

Besides doing my web design projects and building that social network, I launched SimplyWP – a company providing WordPress support and WordPress security services.

So there’s been a lot of work to do recently, which forced me to almost completely ignore my blog and JK TV. I bet you’ve seen less social promotion from me as well.

This phase was really tough for me, because my blog is my baby. It allowed me to quit my job, so neglecting it made me really feel sad.

I drowned in work

I literally drowned in work.

However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel!

I’m glad that I’ve managed to schedule my days more effectively now, so that I can start creating content for the blog more regularly.

I feel like I’m back on track with my priorities and projects.

Interviews are back on JK TV

I’ve done interviews with guys like Pat Flynn (my first interview EVER), Chase Reeves (chatting about building online businesses) or James Gill (shares SEO tactics that work) in the past. They were lots of fun and helped me build relationships with influencers and rock starts, people I admired.

Now I’ve decided to include interviews in my strategy for JK TV as well. Every once in a while I’ll get on a call with an expert for WordPress, web security or online business and grill them on interesting topics.

The upcoming episode features an interview with Jason Amunwa, who’s the Director of Products at Digital Telepathy! Jason and I have been in touch for quite a while and he’s going to share some amazing nuggets on creating WordPress plugins, positioning your business in a competitive market and building a loyal fanbase.

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the episode once it’s published!

How to stay focused

What did I learn from this period?

It’s hard for entrepreneurs to stay focused. It’s hard to prioritize tasks. It’s hard not to add too much stuff to your plate.

Entrepreneurs need to balance actions that bring money in the short-term and actions that grow their business long-term.

In the last weeks I was focused on short-term results, which helped me pay the bills. Now it’s time to focus on my online brand and be more present in the Internet.

Why am I sharing this with you?

Well, first of all I want to apologize for letting you down and not producing content regularly.

Second I want you to know that you’re not alone with feeling overwhelmed and not knowing what steps to take next. We all feel like this sometimes, regardless of how successful we are and how big our business is.

The trick is to take a step back at the right time and to align your actions with your long-term plan. Once you know what goals you want to achieve and broke them down into mid-term and short-term goals, you’ll know what you need to do.

We have to stop running around like headless-chickens and start taking targeted actions!

Let’s do it!

I know the feeling buddy..when you’re an entrepreneur you’re constantly bombarded with thoughts that you can start this business and that business and so on…but you have to cool down, take a very cold shower!! and focus on your greatest skills to make them even greater!

    1. You’re exactly right @disqus_jfNcMPYiS4:disqus!
This is one challenge that I love about being an entrepreneur. Everyday we grow our skill set and gather new experiences.

Feels great to be back on track finally and I can’t wait to implement the new content strategy I’ve created 🙂

  5. Hi Jan,

It’s hard managing time effectively, like spinning plates!

Your new social venture sounds intriguing. I can relate exactly to what you’ve said about not being able to talk about something but really wanting to. That is one of the most challenging parts of my job.

Looking forward to your part at the Branding Summit 😉

    Rich

    1. Thanks for adding your thoughts @disqus_eJNNdYpDFV:disqus!
Agree 100% that not talking about a project you’re excited about is pretty tough, but we’re making huge progress currently. The challenge is almost over and soon I can start sharing details 🙂

Time management has become one of the most challenging parts in business. In the beginning I was all about gathering the skills I needed to provide high quality web design services. Now that I’ve got those, the next level of business management is coming. Interesting to be an entrepreneur!

      Best,
      Jan

  7. Hey Jan!

I’m glad you’re planning more content for the blog. You share great information 🙂

I know that feeling. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up the rythm. You feel there are so many projects you could be working on and there aren’t enough hours in the day.

Can’t wait to read more about your project!
